Tyre Recycling

BestDrive, through their relationship with Continental Retail, are proud to be partnered with Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA).

Did you know that around 56 million standard passenger car tyres are discarded every year in Australia? Of these, only ten percent are currently recycled, whilst the remainder are put into landfill, stockpiled, illegally dumped or exported overseas.

When end-of-life tyres are dumped, burnt or put into landfill, they cause numerous environmental, health and safety issues. In Australia, approximately eighty percent of waste tyres are handled in ways that pose as an extreme fire hazard.

Increasing the recycling rate of old tyres in Australia provides an opportunity to turn an otherwise costly and hazardous waste into a valuable resource, whilst potentially creating new industries and employment opportunities.

The TSA works to promote the development of viable markets for end-of-life tyres. Currently, recycled tyres are used for products such as road surfacing, brake pads, industrial and commercial flooring and soft fall playground surfacing.

When you choose to purchase your next set of tyres at your local BestDrive, you can feel confident that you are doing business with a TSA accredited supplier.
